- Large images after the break -
The question naturally is, why do we do this and what do we get from it over time?
The setup; Lately I have become more and more aware that I repeat images, backlighted trees in mist, backlighted portraits, natural textures etc.
There are simply some images which intriques me more, on the one hand this bothers me as it feels like I am not "seeing" new images, but on the other hand guys like Van Gogh kept working on his sunflowers until he got them right, and Monet massaged those waterliljes for a while in several images... so guess I can sleep OK at night after all (not comparing myself to any awesome artist, just saying Im not as messed up as I feared).
Oslo Norway 1988 Pentax 645 Velvia 160mm f5.6
Lightroom is a great filter for these, as my old slides and negatives is getting scanned have keywords applied, suddenly one can instantly see the result of a search like "painter" (over 20 individual results). for all intents and purposes this is really the same picture, same composition etc, yet I keep trying the same image, at the moment my favorite is the one from New York with the Zeiss 28 biogon, somehow the canvas continues onto the street scene, or maybe the street is distilling unto the canvas.
The other thing I notice is that Im really very "camera agnostic" I shot rangefinder in the early eighties, then over SLR and mediumformat into crop factor dslr and back to rangefinders, I have been known to rent cameras which interest me at the moment. But forgetting the cameras, the picture have sayed very much the same. Guess Im happy with the image, yet I do not really feel that I have captured the quintisential urban painter image yet.
Hong Kong 2010 M9 35mm sx 2.14
The latest shot is the painter from Hong Kong about two weeks ago, to be honest I was not thinking "lets try this again" when I took the picture, not until I clicked on the keyword in LightRoom and said "oh this is not a new image". But since I like photographing in the urban space, I love humans and signs of humans, and am facinated with artist working here, this seems like something which will keep comming up.
How do you feel about revisitng favorite topics and images, post some links.?
