We don't have a catagory for this story, one of our friends have been in the refugee camp and talked with people who experienced the government attack on demonstrators, here is their account of the events.
Note. This story is based on conversations with refugees in Jalalabat., journalists are not allowed into the camp and neither is cameras.
Escaped terrorists from the prison in Andijan held the demonstration where nine people died. That is what the MM reported.
In fact, the story was quite different. More than 500 people died before they crossed the Kyrgyz border. There were not a group of escaped terrorists. But there were a peaceful group of unarmed people..
The story began when 23 businesspersons from Andijan were arrested without any reasons. They were regular men working to support their people. They were establishing schools, colleges, being single parents and so on. They were isolated for 6-8 months before the court began. The trial continued for 3 months and on the last day the judger told the sentence will be read where and when the authority wanted.
May 13 people learned about the demonstration taking part on the Babur Square. The day before the demonstration some of them got anonymous phone calls about the meeting and the others learned from each other. They were told that Karimov- the president of Uzbekistan is coming to listen to the people. It was a peaceful demonstration taking a relaxed direction, where people one by one spoke about how difficult it had become to survive lately.
People were happy to know that their president wanted to help them. However instead of President Karimov the soldiers arrived and started shooting. Some people died on the first shooting. At this point people who were further away from the shooting, thought that the soldiers were shooting into the air to make the crowd to leave. They had no idea they were being shot at by their own government.
The demonstration continued for about two more hours, at this point there were again shooting and the demonstrators realized now what were going on..
The crowd tried to escape from the square but armed soldiers blocked all ways. There was only one free road so the crowd moved toward the cinema "Chulpon". It appeared that the soldier made an ambush there. An estimated 300-500 dead people fell down there and even a bigger number of wounded.
It was raining that day and streamed as if a bloody river was filling the streets of Andijan. Somehow, a small group of people arranged to escape from there. Walking down the streets all night, they approached Teshik-Tash where another ambush awaited them.
Despite people raising white flags and crying that they were unarmed, the soldiers fired on them again. There were dead and wounded people again.
The ones who managed to escape, went to the Kyrgyz border and asked for help. The refugees stayed there for 21 days, then moved to Jalalabat.
It semed everything is behind and there is no reason to be afraid but the refugee still are in a panic.
On June 6th - 16 refugees were taken to Osh city for the questioning. Later they learned that 4 of them were sent to Uzbekistan. Later on, June 16 another 17 were taken from the refugees' camp.
The uzbek refugees are hopeless now. Even after they managed to escape, they feel Karimov's long hands on them. They are the witnesses of Karimov's terrible system and they must be protected
Today the Uzbek refugees ask for help the brothers and sisters from all over the world!
