Culture... is that complex whole which includes knowledge, belief,
arts, morals, law, customs, and any other capabilities and habits
acquired by man as a member of society."
The roots of the Kyrgyz family trace back to the ancient times, to the epic of ethnic communities, based on these tribes formed. Originally the people lived in Siberia,Yenesei region and they were red-haired with blue or green eyes. Later, after the Mongolian invasion as the result of blood mix they became more Asian looking people.
The first historical documents about the Kyrgyz people are found in Chinese manuscripts such as "Shi Tci" ("Historical notes") which was written in the first c.B.C. Based on that, it is safe to say that the Kyrgyz people is one of the oldest known along with their culture.
Being nomadic people, Kyrgyz lived in yurts. They traveled in search of better conditions, adapting their positions, and their way of life to natural enviroment consisting of 98% mountains.
There are some mythological approaches here where from the name Kyrgyz comes from:
1."Kyrk oguz" which means 40 tribes.
2."Kyrk kyz" -"40 girls"
3."Kyr gez" - "Edge crossing"
4."Qyrgyz" - "unbroken"
It is not know which is the right answer, but any one of them would leave a Kyrgyz person proud.
The epos "Manas" is the biggest one in the world, and is also a distinctive national encyclopedia which reflects all sides of social consciousness of Kyrgyz people.
Unfortunately during the Soviet era it was almost forgotten. The political-idological company of Soviet society brought bad harm for it's destiny, there was a doubt about it's national roots, they saw a concentration on the nationalism ideas and many other reasons. But thanks to the principal defence of some scientists we could hold the iternal heritage of Kyrgyz people.
Nowadays the Kyrgyz culture is reviving and the interest in the "Manas" epos is growing, yet there are still many questions as there are answers.
