Sometimes a restaurant is worth waiting for, or in this case traveling to. Bo shares his dining experience in La Verne California.
Before
you start reading this mini review, let me say it right away... I am
BLOWN away..! Ok now you know it and can comfortably continue reading
for the finer details.
This week I made a
appointment to go and visit Bangkok Blue Thai Cuisine in La Verne,
truthfully I had no idea where La Verne is... Figured it was somewhere
along the 10 FWY, maybe as far as El Monte.. how bad could it be..?
Well, Tuesday evening as the office were closing I left a little early
and hopped on my motorcycle, punched the address in La Verne into my
GPS and happily started following the directions... (Never bothered to
look at the estimated arrival time...) Around 6pm I arrived in La
Verne thinking... THIS better be good...
...And good it was... as I entered
in my grobby motorcycle jacket, I was welcomed to the restaurant by
Joyce, who together with her husband, own the restaurant Bangkok Blue.
She did not know I were comming but quickly had me taking pictues for
the panorama I like to add to restaurants listings on the website..
(you can see the restaurant by clicking on the links saying "View
Panorama" then click on the picture and drag your mouse to look
around.)
When you first enter you will
instantly notice the beautiful decorations, the restaurant appears very
balanced and tasteful, a perfect place for a date, I will give the
appearence A+.
BTW. IF you bring a date, you might want to call
ahead and reserve the table by the fountain, it is the perfect romantic
place. However anywhere in this restaurant is a save bet anytime so
don't panic if the date table is already booked.
The music is comfortable and enjoyable, not too loud or distracting from the experience.. another straight A+
Like with a date, this is not all
about appearence, we need more to sustain us, and once I got
comfortable at my table I ordered the mandatory Thai Ice tea, followed
by one of my favorites The Cashew nut Chicken. The Ice Tea were
predictable, I mean... How often have you had a bad Thai Ice tea..?
Not this time either.. So I were ready to dig into the chicken which
arrived much faster than anticipated. It was GREAT.. clearly this were
not a "pre-cooked" batch as I have often seen where it have been
sitting all afternoon. This were just right, the nuts were fresh and
chrisp, the meat tender, and most important the vegetables just
perfectly chrisp, not over cooked... YES... I was very happy,
personally I would have like a little more vegetables, but what I got
were great.. Another straight A.
Bangkok Blue also have a liquor permit, and you are able to order Thai beer or a nice glass of vine.
Joyce and Blue, is a interesting
couple, they did meet in Australia where her family owns several Thai
restaurants, the lived in Thailand where Blue worked in the Music
industry, now they are back in California, Blue is still a music
professional, and he also turn out to be a first class photographer.
Any visit to Bangkok Blue would be
in-complete without taking time to walk the photogallery in the back
and on the walls, notice the backwall which seems to be a "who is who"
of Music legends and Thai Restaurant owners who all have visited...
You will find your self in great company at Bangkok Blue.
